
Blasting for road widening approved in Mokokchung
Mokokchung, January 31 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, has granted permission to JKM Infra Works, Guwahati, Assam, to carry out stone blasting for road widening on National Highway 61 (New NH 02). The work will be conducted between DEF Police Church and Yisemyong at Angetyongpang Tzü River area on Monday, February 3 from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The contractor has been directed to ensure the safety and security of the public and to comply with all relevant rules under the Explosives Act/Rule, 2008. JKM Infra Works LLP will be held responsible for any damage to life or property. The order remains valid only for February 3.
Peren DPDB meeting on February 6
Kohima, January 31 (MExN): The Peren District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) will hold its meeting on February 6 in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Peren New Hq. at 11.00 AM. All the concerned members of the DPDB Peren have been requested to attend the said meeting positively. ADC Kohima notifies on online registration for Agniveer CEE
Kohima, January 31 (MExN): The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kohima has issued a notification informing that online registration for the Indian Army's Common Entrance Exam (CEE) under the Agnipath Scheme is now open for unmarried male candidates from Nagaland. According to a letter from the Army Recruiting Office, Rangapahar, the CEE is tentatively scheduled to begin in February 2025. Eligible candidates can register online at www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. ZTC condemns attack on DFO's vehicle
ZUNHEBOTO, January 31 (MExN): The Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC) has condemned the firing incident on the vehicle of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Zunheboto, on the night of January 24. In a statement, the council denounced the act as an "anti-social activity" that disrupts communal harmony in the town. According to the ZTC, the culprit responsible for the attack surrendered to the police the following day. While acknowledging the swift action taken by law enforcement, the council warned against such acts of intimidation and called for them not to be repeated. The ZTC further expressed its support for efforts to eliminate unlawful activities and commended the police for their prompt response.
Phekmi Collegiate Forum condoles
Kohima, January 31 (MExN): The Phekmi Collegiate Forum (PCF) mourned the sudden demise of Huvechiyi Hoshi, who passed away on January 31. The forum described late Huvechiyi as highly revered and senior most leader who has been an integral part of “our forum's journey.” “Hoshi's sudden demise leaves an unfillable void in our lives, and we mourn the loss of a selfless and dedicated individual who has been a constant source of inspiration, guidance and support,” the PCF stated. NSF mourns
Kohima, January 31 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) mourned the demise of Tapan Kumar Bose, a visionary documentary filmmaker, human rights defender, and relentless advocate for justice and peace.
“Tapan Bose dedicated his life to standing against injustice, violence, and inequality. His unwavering commitment to the cause of human rights and his fearless voice against oppression resonated across
South Asia and beyond,” stated NSF president Medovi Rhi in a condolence message received here today. As a filmmaker, activist, and intellectual, he was part of a collective of scientists, journalists, and artists who sought to uphold the rationalist ideals of the governing principles and challenge historic and contemporary forms of subjugation, Rhi stated.
“He stood in solidarity with those who resisted the capitalist exploitation of land and resources, championing the rights of the marginalized and dispossessed. His advocacy was not just limited to words; he dedicated his time and effort to being present with the people, walking alongside them in their struggles for dignity and freedom,” the NSF president stated. The Naga people will remember Tapan Bose for his unwavering support for our right to self- determination. In a world where many turned a blind eye, he chose to listen, to amplify our voices, and to fight for our cause. His courage and commitment to justice left an indelible mark on our journey, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come, Rhi added.
Trade license renewal open for Medziphema until Feb 28
Medziphema, January 31 (MExN): The Medziphema Town Council has announced that the renewal of Trade Licenses and registrations for businesses under its jurisdiction has commenced and will close on February 28 without any grace period. In a notification issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner and Executive Officer P. James Swu, business owners were urged to complete the renewal process within the stipulated timeframe to avoid late fines. Additionally, all shop owners have been directed to display signboards with their business name, type of establishment, and Trade License number. Defaulters failing to comply with this directive will face an on-the-spot fine of Rs 200.
NNC/FGN clarifies
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 31 (MExN): A statement issued by the 5th Brigade Commander, S/c Naga Army, FGN, Ahevo Venuh rejected a news report published on January 24, which claimed that several members, including Gen (Retd.) T.M. Rhakho, had joined the NNC/FGN under the leadership of Zhopra Vero. The statement, made jointly by Kilonser Hetoi Awomi, Captain Venee Shijoh, and Sgt. Vesavo Tetseo, emphasized that the news was "completely false and misleading." It clarified that they are committed to defending the sovereignty of the nation under the leadership of Gen. (Retd.) T.M. Rhakho.
Further, it condemned the news as "cheap propaganda," asserting that it was published without their consent and was intended to tarnish their reputation and the integrity of the government. It pointed out that 90% of the names, ranks, and designations mentioned in the report were fabricated, accusing vested individuals of manufacturing false information to suit their own agendas.
