Under Tizu Valley Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Network Nagaland (TVBCLN), the Biodiversity Conservation Youth Volunteers from Sukhai village in Zunheboto spotted and rescued the endangered species Pangolin from the above village on the road site on June 1. Advisor for Social Welfare, Wangpang Konyak undertook a review of the implementation of the schemes under social welfare department in Mon district. Interacting with the officers and staffs of social welfare he encouraged them to work hard and dedicate themselves to bring better results. Unlike in the past the performances of the department are now reflected in dashboards, therefore every effort needs to be directed towards uploading of details n performance in the dashboards. He visited the Anganwadi center under Mon and Aboi ICDS Project and interacted with the Anganwadi workers and took firsthand information of how the programmes are being implemented in the grassroot. He also interacted with the beneficiaries.

The Directorate for School Education, Nagaland and Amazon Alexa Team distributed Echo Show 8 smart speakers with Alexa to 46 Educational Block Resource Centres across Nagaland. These devices will be made available to schools in each of these blocks on a rotation basis so that the teachers and students can benefit from AI-powered Alexa’s capabilities, according to the school education department. The Amazon Alexa Team also provided comprehensive training for resource persons from these centres. They now have the skills to set up and manage their devices with Alexa, ensuring that teachers can seamlessly integrate this amazing tool into their teaching methods.

Under the motto ‘Not Me but You,’ the NSS Immanuel College conducted a three-day special camp from May 29 to 31 led by Hriizia Lazeo, Program Officer and Langtopongmei, a member of the NSS, Immanuel College. During the first two days, the students prepared quote-filled signboards as a way of demonstrating their commitment to the ‘dignity of labor’ on the college campus. On the third day, the prepared boards were erected in the vicinity of the college and also at Aoyimsem, the adopted village.

A cleanliness drive and plog run was organised under Meri Life Amplification Plan 2024 as a run up to the World Environment Day 2024 by No. 2 Training Battalion, under the aegis of Assam Rifles Training Centre & School on June 1 in collaboration with CISF and Airport Authority of India. It was a unique activity at Dimapur Airport Area. Approx 50 kg litters were collected during jogging and emphasis on importance of Clean India healthy India weregiven.

In observance of World No Tobacco Day, the Community Health Centre (CHC) Meluri conducted an awareness programme under the theme ‘Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference’ at Govt Higher Secondary School, Meluri Town on May 31. Dr Ngailong L Phom, Dental Surgeon CHC Meluri highlighted on the harmful effects of tobacco. He encouraged the students and teachers to choose life, not tobacco and encouraged the school to declare as ‘Tobacco free School.’ To commemorate the day, students took pledge not to consume any tobacco products and also to spread awareness on the harmful effects of tobacco to their families and friend. An essay competition was also carried out on the theme.

The NILSR has introduced food charcuterie into the curriculum for their Montessori training programme. “In order to equip young children with the skills they need in the wider world beyond school, creativity, installing skilled teachers is paramount,” Theyievino Whiso, NILSR Academic Director stated in a press release. At Montessori NILSR, under the care and leadership of trained teachers, children will have the freedom to pursue interests that may grow into hobbies and life skills, it added.
