A two-day refresher training programme for the in-service Soil Conservation Assistants (SCAs) was organised by Department of Soil & Water Conservation at the Soil & Water Conservation Research & Training Centre, Sechu (Zubza) on March 15 and 16. Zuchumi Ovung, ASCO (R) gave the introductory remarks. In the technical session, the topics on Guidelines on Soil Sampling, Processing and Analysis which were taken  by Khroteu Ritse SSO; Portal Management for the scheme Soil Health & Fertility of RKVY by Kihika G, ASCO (E); Preparation of estimates and Implementation of Engineering Structures for soil and water conservation by Er Vethito Nyekha, JSCO; Agro Forestry, Gap-Plantation and Species Selection by Kevileto Rote, ARO and Documentation of Project activities by Principal & Joint Director Hetoho Y Swu. Altogether 32 participants attended the training.

The students of Counselling Psychology from St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama (SJC) conducted programme on ‘Child Counselling’ with children of St John Bosco School at Khonoma. Addressing the participants, Rev Fr C Joseph, Counsellor, SJC said that counselling is not only for adults but it is equally important to children who are going through tough time of stress and distress. Counselling helps young children as well as teenagers to cope with various psychological and emotional traumas which are affecting their mental health and wellbeing, he added. The other session were child counselling practical and cultural programme. The school Headmistress, Rev Sr Julia, CMC thanked the participants from Carl Rogers Institute of Mental Health and Research Centre, Teacher Trainees on School Counselling, Counselling Psychology students of SJC and participants from Don Bosco Boys’ Hostel, Jotsoma.
Japfü Christian College, Kigwema celebrated the myriad cultures entitled ‘The Melting Pot’ on March 16. “The college has no students union based on tribes, but instead respects and believes in the possibility of peaceful coexistence of every tribe, caste and creed,” it stated in a press release. Students showcased Naga folk songs, folk dances, skits and items from other cultures. The guest artiste for the day was Keneisenuo Sorhie. The event was organised by Department of Sociology, Japfü Christian College, Kigwema in Collaboration with JCC IQAC & JCC NSS.
GMS Leinak, Longleng organised a cultural tour and pottery workshop in collaboration with Nagaland Education Project – The Lighthouse (NECTAR) at Pongo village in Longleng on the theme ‘Reawakening Cultural Legacy’ for the students of Classes 6 to 8, on March 15 with Ali Phom of Pongo Village as the resource person. The event was funded from the 4th Installment of the Performance Incentive Grant of NECTAR Project for the Extra-Curricular Activities& Innovations. During the tour, the students experienced hands on training of pottery making, visited morungs and were taught about the significance of morungs and its culture. Later, they were also taught about beating of log drums. Altogether 37 students and 10 teachers participated in the cultural tour & workshop. (DIPR Photo)
State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised two-day training programme on ‘Linking Farmers to Market; Opportunities and Challenges’ on March 14 and 15. During the training, Jacob Yanthan, CEO, NSAMB, Sourabh Trivedi, Director Marketing, North East Foods India (Produce of Naga Hills) and Nukuzo Phesao, Proprietor Warehouse 103, Founder & Proprietor Nature Fuel India, Co-Founder Pristine Foods spoke on linking farmers to market; opportunities and challenges, aligning produce with product to meet demand, quality and consistency, neutralizing rates for local aggregators to maintain market fluctuations, storage build up to control inconsistent pricing and supply chain. The participants also visited Nagaland State Agriculture Marketing Board (NSAMB) Agri- Expo.
