
2nd Round National Deworming Day was observed at GMS Model Village, 5th Mile Dimapur on August 10. The programme was organized under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) Dimapur. Dr. Kadila, Medical Officer In-charge, RBSK sensitised the school children on the benefits of de-worming twice a year. She informed them on the harmful effects of STHs as well. After a brief awareness talk, the School Health Team Dimapur also conducted diseases screening and medical checkups of the children. National Deworming Day 2023 launching programme was observed at Holy Cross School, Yongnyah village under Longleng district through the initiative of CHC Yongnyah under CMO Longleng on August 10. Dr Banglau Phom, Medical Officer, CHC Yongnyah highlighted the significance of the programme and the ill effects of intestinal worm infestations causing malnutrition and anemia which severely affect the physical and mental health of the growing children. He also gave an awareness talk on hygienic practices to reduce the spread of diseases and also demonstrated the step of hand washing to the students. Albendazole tablet was administered orally to each student present and a few tablets were handed to the school headmaster for Mop Up Day. The second round of National Deworming Day was launched at GPS, Chukitong in Wokha district on August 10. Dr Lirenthung Khuvung, Medical Officer Wokha mentioned that worm infection in children can lead to anaemia, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. Worm infection can be controlled by maintaining personal hygiene and keeping our surrounding clean, he informed and emphasised on proper hand washing methods, washing fruits and vegetables before consumption and discouraging the practice of open defecation. He informed that health workers and anganwadi workers will be distributing deworming tablets at various health units, schools and anganwadi centres across the district. The District Handloom Expo named ‘TabaBana’ was inaugurated at the public ground of Mopungchuket village, Mokokchung on August 10.
