Kohima, February 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Judges' Association (NJA) today honoured Yarenjungla Longkumer for making history as the first woman judicial officer and the first Naga woman in the state to be elevated to the position of High Court Judge.
In a press release, the NJA highlighted that Longkumer was the top-ranked candidate directly recruited to Grade-I of the higher judiciary through an examination conducted by the Gauhati High Court in 2023.
During her career as a judicial officer, she served as the Principal District & Sessions Judge of Kohima and Dimapur, where case pendency is highest, it stated. She held the position twice in each district.
Longkumer also served as the Registrar of the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, until her appointment as Secretary (Judicial) to the Law and Justice Department, Nagaland, it added.
According to the NJA, having worked as an administrator, as a judge of the trial court, and as an appellate court judge in the subordinate judiciary, she has acquired in-depth knowledge of the rule of law and administrative skills, which will enable her to render justice to litigants as she presides as a judge of the Gauhati High Court.
As she takes the oath of office, the NJA conveyed its best wishes, good health, and prayers for God's protection so that she may be a “shining judge and deliver justice to litigants in her future career.”
