Nagaland: NSF demands transparency in appointing NSSB members

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 12 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has asked the Nagaland State Government to ensure that the recruitment of the Chairperson and members of the recently formed Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) are done in a transparent manner.

A press release from NSF President, Ninoto Awomi and General Secretary, Liremo R Kikon welcomed the various steps taken by the State Government to bring the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) to fruition. “The recent notification inviting for applications for the post of Chairman and members of NSSB is another welcome move towards ensuring a swift and proper implementation of the same,” it said.

The NSF reminded that the demand for setting up of NSSB came at the backdrop of the “rampant corruption, backdoor appointment and other mal-practices” prevailing in the recruitment process to various government jobs in the state.

“NSSB is to ensure that these evils are weeded out and culture of meritocracy is adopted. To achieve this, the government should practice total transparency in the process of recruiting the Chairman and members of NSSB,” it appealed.

The NSF also asked the State Government to put in place a robust system wherein only officers with “proven track record of expertise, integrity and morality throughout” their career are included in the NSSB. “Until a group of incorruptible officers are constituted to form the board members, the very purpose of NSSB will be defeated,” it added.

‘Release NCCSE prelim result’

Meanwhile, the NSF reiterated its earlier appeal to the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) for release of the long pending prelims results of the Nagaland Combined Civil Services Examination (NCCSE) 2019.

“This uncertainty over the outcome of the examination which was conducted in November 2019 has been the reason for much anguish and frustration to those aspiring candidates. The delay tactic being adopted by the commission while taking the excuse of the COVID-19 pandemic shall prove counterproductive in the face of the soaring unemployment amongst the youths of the state,” it reasoned.

It further asked the NPSC to issue notification for NCCSE 2020 at the earliest “as the future of the students' and youth community cannot be compromised due to reason which is beyond anyone's control.”

The federation asked the NPSC to respect the aspiration of the students and provide them with the platform for “true intellectual competition.”
