Nagaland: NSLSA celebrate Gandhi Jayanti with various activities

Dimapur, October 3 (MExN): The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) organized Essay competition, Walkathon and Seminar with Legal Literacy Clubs (LLCs) in all the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti as part of launching the month-long  ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav- Celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence’ and Legal Services Week ‘Pan India Awareness and Outreach Programme’ which commenced on October 2. 

Tuensang DLSA conducted an online essay competition on the topic ‘Sex education among the school students.’ All together 38 students from 8 Legal Literacy Clubs (LLCs), Tuensang participated in the online essay competition. The winners were Shania Sangtam, St. Joseph School (first); Chipentola, Loyem School (second), and Keen, GHSS Thangjam (third). All the winners were given cash prizes and certificates, a press release from the PRA, NSLSA.

Wokha DLSA also conducted essay competition with Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha Legal LLC on 'Right to Education.' Altogether, 14 LLC members participated in the competition.

The Longleng DLSA held a walkathon from the District Court to Lempong junction where the students from LLC along with the teacher in-charges participated and distributed legal pamphlets on various schemes and legal rights.

As per the release, the Zunheboto DLSA conducted essay competition With LLC, Sunbeam School Zunheboto on the significance of 'Gandhi Jayanti'. Cash prizes were handed over to Hinoli (1st), Kitokali V Yeptho (2nd), Likavi V Yeptho (3rd), and Viloka (3rd). All together 11 LLC members participated in the essay competition.

Dimapur DLSA also conducted online essay competition on the topic ‘Your favourite freedom fighter’ amongst the club members for all the 10 LLCs in schools under Dimapur.

Kiphire DLSA organized essay competition with GHS Amahator LLC on the topic ‘Fundamental Duties’ wherein 10 LLC members participated and prizes were handed by Seyili, Head GB, Amahator village. Phuleto Yeptho, CJM-cum-Secy DLSA Kiphire, Michael Aye, APP Kiphire, Bentangwati Sangtam, Retainer Lawyer, DLSA Kiphire spoke on National Food Security Act, Health and family Welfare Schemes and Right to Education, respectively. A total of 73 participants attended the seminar, according to the release.

Meanwhile, Mon DLSA organised essay competition on the topic ‘Relevance of Gandhian Principles in Indian Constitution’ with Inter Schools, Mon town at Anghjong Mission High School. Seyielenuo Mezhü, NJS, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA Mon gave the keynote address where she elaborated on the importance of the competition topic and Legal Services activities. Minpho, Headmaster of Anghjong Mission High School, Mon town shared the significance of the day. Moiya M Konyak of St Mary High School, T Angam Susan Konyak of St John Higher Secondary School, Mon and Leiong Wangnao N of  Anghjong Mission High School, Mon won the essay competition, bagging the first, second and third positions respectively. 

The Phek DLSA also organised a walkathon in Phek Town. Followed by a programme where Cheliam Khiamniungan, Secretary, Phek DLSA briefed about the importance of nationwide awareness and outreach campaign, to spread information to the citizens to come forward, participate and make use of the programmes. Altogether 30 students along with teacher in-charges from Government Middle School, Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, and Christian Home School participated. 

Peren DLSA organised a marathon race which was flagged off by Retainer Lawyer Asungbe from Zero Point Jalukie Town. Around 25 students from Ibuang Thou Memorial School participated in the marathon. Prizes were handed over to the winners— Ilungpetba, Inchatlung and Phenrongdi, by Hillary Marengmei, Headmaster, Ibuang Thou Memorial School. 

Similarly, the Kohima DLSA organised a walkathon which was flagged off by Viketouzo Keyho, Teacher-in-charge, Dr Neilhouzhu Kire Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, from Old MLA Hostel junction Kohima. Meanwhile, Sunjib Rana, Retainer Lawyer KDLSA briefed the participants about the upcoming Legal Services Week. 

Mokokchung DLSA conducted cleanliness drive with volunteers from Mokokchung DLSA panel lawyers, PLVs, youths from Greening Thoughts, Artang, Zila Sanik ex-servicemen, NYKS and students from Mokokchung Law College. WV Patton, Secretary, Mokokchung DLSA apprised on the ongoing legal awareness campaign and the rights and duties of every citizen, while encouraging the volunteers to be responsible citizens and take part in creating awareness at an individual capacity.
