KOHIMA, MAY 19 (MExN): The Nagaland Nursing Council (NNC) today stated that efforts will be made to arrange for training and educating all nurses working in Nagaland to equip them with necessary skills and knowledge required to effectively care for COVID patients.
“It is normal and human to experience fear while caring for such patients,” the council stated in a statement, but assured that strict adherence to the COVID protocols reduce the risk of getting the infection.
“We are hopeful that the classes will help allay fears and anxiety related to the disease,” it said.
“Response/queries from the nurses related to the COVID-19 care is welcome. Any nurse in need of counselling may contact Inaholi Asumi (mobile No. 9089734843),” it informed.
The Nagaland Nursing Council also requested all nurses to support and cooperate with the health care institutions to provide quality care to patients with COVID-19.
“We call upon all nurses to be faithful to their duty, keeping the professional conduct, etiquette and our code of ethics in mind. Non-compliance such as refusal to render care, failure to report to duty, abandoning the responsibilities and tendering resignation without proper ground will lead to disciplinary action as per the rules and regulations of the council,” it stated.
The COVID-19 pandemic, it recognised, has affected millions of people round the world and has brought about a huge challenge for all the healthcare workers.
“Nurses across the world, are at the forefront, caring for those affected by the pandemic. Nurses are the backbone of the health care system and our presence and efforts in the health care settings makes a great difference to the life of the patients coming to hospital or health care centre. The dedication of the nurses to the service is very much appreciated and as we celebrated Nurses Day recently we are once again reminded to serve humanity with respect and loyalty,” it said.
The council stressed that it is the primary responsibility of the nurses to attend to the needs of the people affected with COVID-19.
