‘Together for Peace: Respect, Safety & dignity for all’
Dimapur, September 22 (MExN): Peace Channel in collaboration with North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) commemorated International Day of Peace and Peace Channel Foundation Day in NEISSR Conference hall. A panel discussion on different topics basing on their understanding and research was also held.
The moderator and the speakers for the panel discussion were Master of Social Work (MSW) students of NEISSR from different specializations i.e. Community Development, Youth Development and Peace and conflict transformation studies respectively. The topics were “Is Insurgency a block to development?” “Youth and its responsibilities in Peace Building” and “A peaceful solution to Indo-Naga Conflict.”
Focusing on the theme of the day - “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for all,” Asst. Prof. Liangamang Robert said that the theme honors the spirit of “Together” a global initiative that promotes respect, safety and dignity for all those who were forced to flee their homes in search of a better life. He encouraged the students to work together rather than being an individualistic and be an effective peace builder and promoter in the society.
Other highlights of the programme were Prayer song, welcome address, special song presented by the 1st Semester students titled “Heal the world and vote of thanks by District Co-ordinator, Peace Channel.
Community Education Centre School: Peace Channel observed International Day of Peace cum 12th Peace Channel Foundation Day in collaboration with Community Education Centre School (CECS) on September 21.
Garrol Lotha, Dimapur District Co-ordinator relating on the theme compared with the present scenario of Naga society and asked everyone to retrospect on oneself: “Do we really respect everyone equally? Are we safe in our society? Do we live a dignified life?” She added that peace can be initiated in the society only if we have concern for others rather than being individualistic, accept everyone and be united in spite of discriminating one another, learn to appreciate in spite of the blame game, respect every individual despite of any status or tags and live a safe and dignified life.
The highlights of the programme include Peace anthem, special number by the Peace Club members of Community Education Centre School (CECS), Significance of International Day of Peace and Peace Channel Foundation Day, group activity on the issues related to Peace and Conflict in the society initiated by NEISSR interns, vote of thanks delivered by Maong, Teacher Animator of the Peace Club followed by a Peace Prayer.
Peace Channel Peren Chapter: The Peace Channel Peren Chapter organized a programme to commemorate the International Day of Peace on September 21 at Town Hall, Peren. The day, which also marks the 11th Foundation Day of Peace Channel, was attended by Four Peace Club established schools in Peren Town.
The event started with the recitation of “World Peace Prayer” by the Peace Club members while Haipeurangbe Moses, Associate Coordinator (Peren) of Peace Channel gave a power-point presentation on vision, mission and its activities. “Peace Channel is an emerging Secular Youth Peace Movement of the third millennium aiming at the transformation of the individuals as Peace Lovers, Peace Makers and Peace Promoters,” he said.
P David Ndang, Coordinator (Peren) Peace Channel also spoke on the importance of the “International Day of Peace” with focus on the theme of the day. He also spoke on the importance of showing support for refugees and migrants. Showing an animated video launched by United Nations Department of Public Information of Yusra Mardini and Ishak who were refugees to other countries, he stressed on the importance of acceptance. He concluded that by opening our hearts, joining hands and reaching out to refugees and migrants, we can move closer to attaining peace, prosperity and protection for all.
George, Teacher animator, ASHSS also shared his thoughts on the Movement saying the Movement had its inception in Jalukie, Peren District and urged the students to make the district a model for promoting peace.
A multimedia presentation on Peace Channel was also screened during the event.Earlier, special numbers from Peace club members of All Saints Hr. Sec School and Baptist Hr. Sec School were presented. The programme concluded with the Peace Anthem.
Nagaland State Bharat Scouts & Guides: Nagaland State Bharat Scouts & Guides (NSBSG) observed the International Day of Peace 2017 at Mezhür Higher Secondary School (MHSS), Kohima on September 21 for the first time.
Gracy Ayee, State Coordinator, State Resource Centre for Women (Nagaland) gave the “Youth speech for peace” and State Chief Commissioner of NSBSG, Atuo Mezhür Sekhose gave the welcome address. Meditation and prayer was held where the gathering prayed for individual peace, societal peace and world peace.
In the second session, an essay writing competition was organized by the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides on the theme “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for all”. Vivotsonuo Sorhie got the 1st position; Toinali Chishi bagged the 2nd position and Senbeni Yanthan grabbed the 3rd position. Cash prize money of Rs. 3,000, Rs. 2,000 and 1,000 alongwith Certificates of Merit were awarded respectively. A Certificate of participation was also given to all the essay writers of the competition.
Youth awareness programme on ‘Messengers of Peace’, ‘Free Being Me’ and ‘Surf Smart’ were conducted by Kekhrie Theünuo, Rover Scout Leader. Awareness on how to be an ambassador of peace within oneself and be an asset to the society, how to express oneself freely without any influence of other’s control, safe internet usage of social media like Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram etc were conducted.
During the prize distribution ceremony, I. Amenla Soyah, State training Commissioner (Guide) gave away the prizes and certificates.
Wokha District Bharat Scouts & Guides Association: The Wokha District Bharat Scouts & Guides Association observed International Day of Peace at Mt. Sinai School Wokha today with Dr. Abeni Kithan Principal Mt. Tiyi College cum Vice President BS&G Wokha as the chief guest.
Dr. Abeni said, “Peace begins at home for which she asked the gathering to spread the message of peace to the nation and the world.”
Rev. Sulumo Ezung Pastor WTBC as the theme speaker insists the scout and guides to be an agent and messenger of peace. He further quoted from the Bible and stated that Jesus is the prince of peace where one should follow and work to bring peace in our land.
Loreni Tsopoe Head Teacher GMS Sec ‘A’ cum Dist Commissioner (G) Wokha, chaired the programme and H. Orenpomo Ngullie DOC (S) BS&G Wokha led the scout & guides in spreading the message of peace through action.
Sukhalu Chishi EAC Judicial, Wokha also attended the programme along with the 156 Scouts & Guides from Cistus, Regimental, Mt. Sinai, LMS, Isaiah and Mt. Carmel Schools with programme officials, Wokha District BS&G Association members and students.
