Kohima, August 25 (MExN): The Nagaland Peace Centre, Kohima deeply mourned the demise of former Chief Minister of Manipur Rishang Keishing.
A message from NPC Chairman N. Theyo stated that he knew late Keishing personally and found him to be a man of “outstanding personality”.
“Once we worked together on integration committee as set up by the Naga people at Kohima in 1969 with him as General Secretary and I as Joint Secretary under the presidentship of Lt. Rev. Menguoseso Savino. The committee set up a delegation and we went to New Delhi and met Central leaders both ruling and opposition MPs and pressed our demands for integration of Naga areas under one administration. At that time, even the opposition leaders understood our sentiments and said our demand is rightful,” Theyo recalled in his condolence message.
The NPC Chairman reflected on Keishing’s “compassion for needy and poor tribal Naga students” and stated that the former Chief Minister worked very hard to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of his people.
“He had a big heart and a broad mind so, he never took revenge on his enemies who tried to kill him when his convoy was terribly ambushed on the road from Imphal to Ukhrul but his life was saved by the almighty God,” Theyo recalled and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
