Nagaland Peace Centre welcomes unity move

Dimapur, December 10 (MExN): Welcoming the ‘unification move’ of the Naga underground factions, the Nagaland Peace Centre, Kohima today said that it hoped that the move would be materialized in reality and ensure the rights and privileges and equality in the Naga society.    

A press release issued by the Chairman of the Nagaland Peace Centre (NPC), N Theyo and Executive Director, Lhusi Haralu said that the unification move depicts a living demonstration to redeem the long sufferings of the damaged society of Nagas in order ‘to wipe out tears from every eyes and pain from every heart of Nagas’. 

“Factional fighting amongst Nagas is another ugly and painful experiences,” said the release. In this regard, the release especially commended the Western Sumi Hoho, the Joint Forum of Nagaland GBs Federation and Nagaland DBs Association and also the formation of the Core Committee consisting of representatives from the three Naga underground warring factions; the release expressed hope that this development would pave ‘the way for mutual trust, forgiveness and goodwill’.  

“This unity move thus gives an opportunity to rebuild the society to lead a life of happiness and prosperity,” the release added.

FGN Chakhesang Region supports unity move

The FGN, Chakhesang Region today appreciated the unification of the warring factions of NKSC (K) and NSCN (IM) in Sumi Region and termed it as a positive approach to shun the abominable fratricidal culture and said that it has set the precedent for the other Naga Regions to come together in their respective families. 

“This gives a ray of hope not only to Sumi Region but all the Nagas as well to leave the shameful and destructive path of bloodshed and fulfill the aspiration of the Nagas for peace and unity,” the Midan Peyu of FGN Chakhesang Region, KL Kronu said in a press release, “This is the only course for the Nagas to realize unity and solidarity.” 

The release said that the FGN Chakhesang Region believes that Nagas are ready to come forward and defend the ‘National sovereignty’. 

In this regard, the release asserted that the FGN Chakhesang Region on their part upholds the Plebiscite of 16 May 1951, wherein it was pledged to uphold and defend the Naga sovereignty by the forbearers. 

“We further believe that when Nagas come together again under the banner of the NNC, it is not some one defecting and joining another but it is a matter of each and every one coming to the mainstream of the Nation for a cause which we are bound to uphold,” declared KL Kronu, the Midan Peyu of Chakhesang Region FGN.

SSUS welcomes unity move

The Sumi Students Union Shillong (SSUS) today welcomed the recent unification movement by Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) and termed it as a positive step toward the ultimate Naga unity. “(SSUS) Shillong also like to express a view that this unification must aim to bring every Naga tribe together and urged all the Naga tribal Hoho Church bodies, Student bodies, NGO’s and general public to give their best towards ultimate peace for better Nagaland,” the SSUS said in a press release issued by its Vice President, John Yeptho.
