DIMAPUR, MAY 17 (MExN): Nagaland Public Health Engineering Department Minister, Jacob Zhimomi and Advisor for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, and Women Resource Development, R Khing have announced that they have tested positive for COVID-19 on May 17.

In a tweet on Monday evening, the BJP legislator stated: “I tested positive for #COVID19 today. I have admitted myself to hospital for my own safety and others as well. Kindly remember me in your prayers...”

Earlier, Khing also took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to update that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

“I tested +ve for #COVID19 today. However, totally asymptomatic and in good health. Anyone who has come in contact with me in the last 7 days should isolate and get themselves tested…” he added.

Incidentally, Khing took the 2nd dose of Covishield on April 22. “Took my 2nd dose of #Covishield today at CHC Tseminyu. I urge all those who are qualified to register yourself and get vaccinated at the nearest designated centre,” he then tweeted.

“Adequate immune response takes 2-3 weeks” after completion of entire vaccination schedule i.e. after the second dose of vaccine, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

However, experts agree that it is possible for a fully vaccinated person to get infected if exposed to the virus.  Called vaccine breakthrough cases, the United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that a small percentage of people “who are fully vaccinated will still get COVID-19 if they are exposed to the virus that causes it.”

However, there is a common consensus that those developing COVID-19 after full vaccination will probably have a milder illness and breakthrough cases should not deter anyone from using the current vaccines.
