Nagaland pledge to promote peace and social harmony

In a first, Nagaland today observed anti-terrorism day at the State capital and took pledge to uphold and promote peace, social harmony, and understanding among all fellow human beings and fight the forces of disruption threatening human lives and values.  

On the occasion, Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar administered the anti-terrorism pledge to the administrative heads of department, officials and staff of Civil Secretariat at the Conference Hall of the Nagaland Civil Secretariat here.

  Kumar maintained the country has become more united in preventing terrorist acts. He urged the civil society to combat terrorist in order to prevail peace in the country.  

The Chief Secretary also explained that by observing the anti-terrorism day, citizens would be renewed towards self- dedication to fight against terrorism.  

The same was also observed at the office of Deputy Commissioner, Kohima.  Rovilatuo Mor, Deputy Commissioner said the day was also to rededicate oneself in order to take all preventive measures and positive steps to reduce the violent activities among all sections of people particularly by the youths.  

He urged the gathering to make concerted efforts in guiding the youths and also to abstain any undesirable activities and action, which affects the people, society and nation as a whole.  

Anti-terrorism day is observed every year throughout the country on May 21, the death anniversary of late Rajiv Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991.  

The day is observed to generate awareness in the country among all sections of people about the danger of terrorism and violence and its effect on the people, society and the country.  

The objective behind the observance of anti-terrorism day is to wean away the people from terrorism and violence, an official statement said.   word
