Nagaland Police crackdown on alcohol and drugs

Dimapur, January 19 (MExN): The Nagaland Police has registered a total of seven cases during the first week of its month-long operations to combat the menace of widespread drug and alcohol use in the state. 

In a press release on Wednesday, the Nagaland Police informed that it had launched the campaign on January 11 in order to combat the menace of widespread availability and usage of synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and its effect on the youth. 

“Intensive checking in all check posts especially inter-district check posts, raids and checking of hotels, restaurants, etc., has been launched to prevent any such activities,” it said.

The release informed that for the week ending January 17, it registered three cases and arrested three persons in connection with seizure of 964 bottles of IMFL. 

A total of four cases were registered in connection with narcotic and psychotropic substances along with the arrest of seven persons. The release also stated that 192 numbers of Spasmo Proxivon and other tablets were seized along with 72 grams of Brown Sugar and 650 grams of Heroin.

Meanwhile, the state police force appealed to the general public to provide information of sale or distribution of any form of narcotics, drugs, IMFL etc., to the nearest Police Station or Narcotic Police Station. The CUG (Closed User Group) phone numbers of various Nagaland Police Officers and Police Stations is available in ‘Call Your Cop’ mobile app, it said, adding that the identity of the informant shall be kept confidential.
