Nagaland Potato Festival 2026 showcases agri-trade promise

Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse visits the stalls at the Potato Festival held at Jakhama Village Ground, Kohima on May 15.

Jakhama, May 15 (MExN): The third edition of the Nagaland Potato Festival 2026 was held at Jakhama Village Ground on Friday, highlighting the growing agri-trade potential of potato cultivation in the state.

Nagaland Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, formally inaugurated the festival as the special guest, stated a DIPR report. 

The event was hosted by Visakunu Tetso and Vikhehiezo Kulnu. Rev Zapovil Sophie, Senior Pastor of Jakhama Baptist Church, offered the invocation. Kehochol Tase, Chairman of Jakhama Village Council, delivered the welcome address, followed by greetings from Kevipodi Sophie, MLA and Chairman of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Kohima.

In his keynote address, Dr Keviu Shüya, Deputy Project Director of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kohima, underscored the importance of potato farming and the trade opportunities it presents for the state.

Short speeches were delivered by Veyielo Doulo, Director of the Department of Tourism, and the Commanding Officer of the 7th Battalion Madras Regiment, Jakhama Military Station.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Avilie Zhotso, Convenor of the Nagaland Potato Festival 2026, followed by a visit to stalls showcasing local potato products and agricultural innovations.
