Nagaland Power dept files ARR and Tariff petition for FY 2026-27

Kohima, August 4 (MExN): The Department of Power, Government of Nagaland, has filed a petition before the Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) seeking approval for its Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) and Tariff Proposal for the fiscal year 2026-27, effective from October 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027. 

The Commission has admitted the petition and has invited suggestions and objections from all stakeholders by August 14, 2026, stated a DIPR report.

The petition, filed under Sections 61, 62, and 64 of the Electricity Act 2003 and the NERC MYT Tariff Regulations, 2016, was initially submitted on November 28, 2025, with a revised calculation filed on July 27, 2026. It has been registered as Petition No. 02/2026-27.

Highlights of the proposal:
Reduction in Net Revenue Requirement: The Department has projected a Net Revenue Requirement of Rs 883.18 crore for the FY 2026-27, a decrease from the Rs 953.86 crore approved in the MYT Tariff Order dated March 28, 2025. 

Revised Energy Charges: The Department has proposed revised energy charges (Rs./kWh) for various consumer categories for the period of October 2026 to March 2027. Key proposed rates for post-paid consumers include:

•    Domestic: Slab rates ranging from Rs 6.10/kWh (0-30 kWh) to Rs 8.30/kWh (>250 kWh).
•    Commercial: Slab rates from Rs 8.60/kWh (<60 kWh) to Rs 10.35/kWh (>240 kWh).
•    Industrial: Slab rates from Rs 7.50/kWh (<500 kWh) to Rs 8.70/kWh (>5000 kWh).
•    Agriculture: Rs 3.85/kWh.
•    EV Charging Stations: Rs 8.80/kWh.

Pre-Paid Consumer Rates: A separate, uniform rate structure has been proposed for pre-paid consumers. Rates include Rs 6.05/kWh for Domestic, Rs 7.10/kWh for Industrial, Rs 7.35/kWh for Bulk, Rs 9.00/kWh for Commercial, and Rs 3.45/kWh for Agriculture categories.

Public Lighting Charges: Charges for public lighting are to be recovered from Domestic, Commercial, Industrial, and Bulk consumers through a fixed monthly surcharge per connection, ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 25.

Stakeholder Invitation: The consumers and other stakeholders have been invited to give their written suggestions, objections, comments. These should be sent to the Deputy Director, NERC, Kohima, with a copy to the Chief Engineer (D&R), Department of Power, by August 14, 2026. 

Document Availability: Copies of the petition and related documents are available for inspection at the office of the Chief Engineer (D&R), RMC Branch, Kohima, during office hours. Interested parties can obtain copies for a fee of Rs 200 per set in cash or through Demand Draft.
