Nagaland has ranked 5th among eight small states on improvement in their overall performance scores on the School Education Quality Index (SEQI). Manipur topped the list, followed by Tripura and Goa, while Arunachal Pradesh ranked last. 


This was revealed in the NITI Aayog’s SEQI report which was released today. The study charted performance of states in this index over the period from 2015-16 to 2016-17. 


Among the larger states of the country, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan topped the overall performance scores. 
The report showed that there is considerable variation between the fastest and slowest improving states. States such as Meghalaya, Nagaland and Goa outpaced the others, improving by 14.1, 13.5 and 8.2 percentage points respectively, thus improving their ranks in the process.


In learning outcomes, Nagaland placed sixth among the small states, with Manipur coming out on top. In terms of governance processes aiding outcomes, Nagaland came second among the small states. The State also placed 4th among eight small states regarding infrastructure and facilities, with Mizoram topping this category. 

 


However, the report revealed that from 2015-16 and 2016-17, the percentage of schools with computer laboratories reduced by more than 10 percentage points in Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Meghalaya.
