A total of 4 boxes of vaccines were delivered to Nagaland on May 12. The vaccines were reportedly the doses ordered by the State to start the vaccination process of 18-44 years age group.

An Indigo Flight delivered 4 boxes of vaccines at Dimapur Airport on May 12, informed an update by official handle of Regional Executive Director, Airport Authority of India, North-East Region on Twitter.

Cargo staff offloaded and immediately handed over to Department of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland, it added.

When contacted, a DOHFW official confirmed that arrival of vaccines but said that said that vaccination for the aforesaid age group will not start right away as the department is trying to catch up on the frontline workers in the next 3 days.

On May 10, the State Government issued a notice prioritising the vaccination of employees in several departments and corporations including banks, Nagaland State Transport (NST), Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), OIL, Food Corporation of India (FCI), Postal Service, Journalists and high risk groups involved in quarantine centers.

It will be notified once modalities are in place, the official indicated.

The Morung Express on May 6 had reported that Nagaland placed an order for 36,850 doses of COVIDSHEILD for starting the 18-44 age group vaccination process from the Serum Institute of India (SII).

Regarding the non availability of doses, an official then informed that the MOHFW allocates the vaccines on the basis of population, cases, etc and more consignments will arrive in later months.

The State is yet to launch the vaccination process of the concerned age group and as per MOHFW data on May 12, only four doses have been administrated. Overall, a total of  30,44,463 doses in the age group have been administrated across 30 States/Union Territories in India since the start of phase-3 of vaccination drive.
