Nagaland records 3.94% wholesale inflation in Q1 2026

Kohima, October 6 (MExN): Nagaland recorded a year-on-year wholesale inflation rate of 3.94% during January-March 2026, with Primary Articles registering the highest inflation among the three major commodity groups, according to the Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DES), Nagaland.

The State Wholesale Price Index (WPI), with 2012 as the base year, stood at 173.26 during the first quarter of 2026. Primary Articles recorded an inflation rate of 4.20%, followed by Fuel and Power at 3.20% and Manufactured Products at 1.16%. 

Meanwhile,  the DES data showed a steady upward movement of WPI during the quarter, with the overall index increasing by 0.55% month-on-month in February and 0.56% in March, the State DIPR reported. 

Fuel and Power recorded the highest monthly increase in February at 1.27%, while Manufactured Products registered its highest monthly growth of 0.76% in March. Primary Articles also continued to rise during the period. 

Among the major groups, the index for Primary Articles increased from 174.81 in January to 176.69 in March, while Fuel and Power rose from 160.33 to 162.73 over the same period. Manufactured Products increased from 157.85 to 159.38. 

Within Primary Articles, Food Articles had the largest weight at 81.01, followed by Non-Food Articles at 2.53 and Minerals at 0.14. The combined weight of Primary Articles was 83.68, compared with 10.68 for Fuel and Power and 5.64 for Manufactured Products. 

The DES released the WPI for January-March 2026 as part of its quarterly price statistics, the report added.
