Nagaland records highest single-day spike of 333 cases

Dimapur, May 8 (MExN): Nagaland recorded the highest single-day spike of 333 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday pushing the tally of active cases to 2,711.

According to the health department’s bulletin, Dimapur reported 204 new cases, Kohima- 116, Mokokchung- 6, and Mon- 4, while Tuensang, Peren and Longleng districts reported 1 each.

The death toll which stood at 112 on May 7, increased to 127 on Saturday, as per the bulletin. On the other hand, 19 patients—14 from Dimapur, Kohima- 4, and Mokokchung- 1, who were previously COVID-19 positive have recovered from the disease.

The total caseload of the State now stands at 15,913, out of which 12,559 people have recovered from the infection and there are now 2,711 active cases.

Among the new cases, 275 were traced contacts, returnees/travellers- 38, armed forces/security personnel- 13 and frontline workers- 7. Of the active cases, 2,451 are asymptomatic, 125 have mild symptoms, 39 have moderate symptoms requiring oxygen and 71 have severe symptoms requiring oxygen. Meanwhile 16 people are in the ICU and 9 are on ventilator.
