Kohima, July 24 (MExN): The Coming Generation (TCG) conducted its ongoing ‘Nagaland Says No to Plastic’ campaign at Nagabazar colony in Kohima on July 22 in collaboration with Eco Angels.
The campaign, an initiative under the ‘Nagaland 4 Change’ project, was attended by the council members and youths of the colony.
The main objective of the campaign, according to a press release from TCG, was to discuss on the causes, consequences and the alternatives of using plastic bags. The participants were encouraged to cultivate the habit of using cloth bags.
Alternatives and feedbacks were also received from the colony members, while discussion on whether to make Nagabazar colony a ‘Plastic Free Zone’ also happened.
During the discussion, Francis Ruangmei, the chief administrator of TCG pointed out that the motive of the campaign was not to place the alternatives before the people, but rather to encourage the people to inculcate the habit of using bio-degradable bags, the release said.
He also insisted that alternatives should first come from within each person only then the true change will follow. “It depends on every individual whether to say no to plastic, when we say no then that is the time when the alternatives will follow,” Francis added.
Further, he encouraged the participants to contribute for safer environment now and in future as a responsible citizen.
