Dimapur, February 6 (MExN): The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of ICAR-KVK Dimapur and ICAR-KVK Kiphire was convened in hybrid mode at the ICAR Regional Centre, Nagaland.
The session was presided over by scientists and officials, including Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer, Dr CS Prasad, former ADG (ANP) ICAR- New Delhi, Dr James Swu, ADC, Medziphema, Dr Girish Patil S, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Prof L Daiho, Dean, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland university, Medziphema and Dr H Kalita, Head of Regional Station, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema.
DC Kiphire Temsuwati highlighted the need for a balanced approach between production and processing, with a focus on apiculture and value addition. Dr CS Prasad highlighted the importance of climate-resilient technologies and interdisciplinary collaboration for rural entrepreneurship. Dr Girish Patil S emphasised the role of KVKs in bridging the gap between farmers and scientific research, while Dr Kalita reiterated KVK’s mandate in promoting sustainable farming practices at the grassroots level.
The meeting was also attended virtually by Dr BP Singh, Head, DTEC; Dr S Basanta, ICAR-KVKs Nodal Officer; Dr AK Sinha, Principal Scientist, ATARI, Zone VII; Dr M Islam, Principal Scientist & Head, KVK Ri-Bhoi, along with representatives from ICAR-KVKs Barapani.
The meeting witnessed participation from officials of key line departments, including Agriculture (DAO), Horticulture (DHO), Veterinary & Animal Husbandry (Deputy CVO), Forestry (DFO), Fisheries, Central Institute of Horticulture, and representatives from National Honey Bee Mission alongside 70 attendees, including six progressive farmers from Dimapur and Kiphire.
Dr Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK Dimapur, and Dr Lahar Jyoti Bordoloi, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK Kiphire, presented reports on the implementation of recommendations from the previous SAC meeting, achievement of the KVKs, and progress report of the year 2024. Subject Matter Specialists from both KVKs outlined their respective achievements and the proposed action plan for 2025, focusing on key developments and future strategies.
During the interactive session, officials from various departments emphasized the crucial role of KVKs in addressing farmers' challenges through scientific interventions. They also highlighted the importance of interdepartmental collaboration to foster a more inclusive and integrated approach to agricultural development in the region.
Wokha: ICAR-KVK Wokha conducted its 18th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting at the KVK Conference Hall on February 4.
A press release received here stated that Dr H Kalita, Head of the Regional Centre, ICAR Nagaland, presided over the meeting as the Chairman of the SAC. In his opening remarks, Dr Kalita welcomed SAC members and provided insights into the mandate and role of KVK. He emphasised the importance of disseminating sustainable and resilient farming technologies at the grassroots level to enhance farmers' production and income. Additionally, he highlighted the need to work in a convergence mode with various departments to foster entrepreneurship development in rural areas.
The meeting was graced virtually by Dr AK Mohanty, Director of ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI) Zone-VII, Meghalaya, as the chief guest.
In his address, Dr Mohanty stressed the importance of selecting need-based and appropriate technologies suited to micro-farming situations, which are essential for harnessing the district's production potential. He emphasised that the technologies recommended by the KVK should be shared with the state line departments for inclusion in their development plans, reinforcing the critical role of KVK in this process.
The event was attended by various District Heads and officials from line departments in Wokha, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Fishery, Forestry, Soil, Sericulture, Veterinary, DDM-NABARD, Lead Bank Manager, Skill Officer from District Administration, and representatives from Farmers Producers Organizations (FPOs), along with progressive farmers, entrepreneurs, and scientists from ICAR Nagaland, Dr Aabon and Dr Harendra Varma.
During the meeting, Dr Sandeep Deshmukh presented the Action Taking Report (ATR) on the recommendations from the previous SAC meeting as well as the Annual Progress Report (APR) for the year 2024.
Dr N Khumdemo Ezung, Chief Technical Officer (Agronomy) has presented the Annual Action Plan for 2025. The house thoroughly discussed the proposed action plan. In an interactive session, officials from line departments highlighted the crucial role of KVKs in identifying and addressing diverse challenges faced by farmers. They underscored the significance of KVK in collaborating with line departments to adopt a more inclusive approach for tackling agricultural issues in the district.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr Moakum Pongen, Chief Technical Officer (Animal Science).
