Guwahati | May 19 : Altogether 10 journalists from Nagaland are taking part in the third edition of Airtel North East Media Sports Festival, which commenced here this morning at RG Sports Complex in Guwahati.
On day one, Dimapur Press Club advanced to the second round in the badminton team event while in chess Ashikho Pfozhe and Chizokho Vero made 2 points each. Kuzhovesa Soho managed one point out of 3 rounds played till today. They all advanced to the fourth round, which will resume tomorrow.
The nine day-long festival, being organized by Assam Sports Journalist Association, will go on up to May 27. Earlier, MLA Robin Bordoloi inaugurated the event at the Kanatlata Indoor stadium. Speaking at the occasion, Bordoloi praised the Nagaland team for participating in the event hosted by ASJA. He hoped that Nagaland state would also come up with sports infrastructure to facilitate players in various disciplines. He said Nagaland has potential in sports.
The MLA also lauded the ASJA for taking initiative in organizing the festival and called upon them to share their experiences in promoting sports in the NE region. Table tennis events will commence from May 21 while cricket would begin from May 22, followed by soccer from the 25th.
