Nagaland, Taiwan work to strengthen technical cooperation on Bamboo
The Nagaland State team held a meeting with a technical team from Taiwan in New Delhi on August 24.
DIMAPUR, AUGUST 24 (MExN): A Nagaland State delegation team lead by Resident Commissioner & Additional Chief Secretary, Jyoti Kalash along with Bamboo Mission Team Director Imtirenla and staff had meeting with Taiwan Technical Team in New Delhi to strengthen technical cooperation on bamboo resource development.
A press release from the PRO, Nagaland House, New Delhi said that India’s economic interaction with Taiwan has gained momentum in the past decade with several bilateral agreements in agriculture, investments, heritage railways, civil aviation, DTAA, industrial cooperation, SME cooperation, customs cooperation, among others.
To promote and help the bamboo industry, SMEs and MSMEs in Nagaland, particularly in NE States, there already a proposal to establish an India- Taiwan Bamboo Technical Centre at Dimapur, Nagaland. The centre will be hosted at Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre (NBRC), Dimapur and will be implemented by Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) and Taiwanese Bamboo Company in the area of R&D, technology transfer, skill development, exchange of experts, investments in bamboo sector, marketing etc.
To achieve this cooperation, a team from NBDA led by its Chairman visited Taiwan from August 4 to 7 and had series of meeting with various stakeholders in Taiwan.
During the visit, collaboration in various areas was discussed.
It included technical cooperation and support for development of various technologies for value additions of bamboo, bringing out utility and marketable products.
Discussions were also held to create a demonstration centre of Taiwanese machine and tools, products and information centre at Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre (NBRC), Dimapur for the entrepreneurs and start-ups.
Cooperation for transfer of technology, skill development and areas of technical cooperation with Taiwan and Nagaland and NE States on bamboo plantation, processing and products development, design development etc was another component.
It was further decided to facilitate exchange of young scientists, artisans, farmers, designers, experts for study and R&D activities between Taiwan and Nagaland.
Another decision arrived at was to organise international seminars, workshops, forums, expos on Bamboo plantation, biotechnology investment, trade etc. One such event will be held within this year.
Agencies from Taiwan like TAITRA and ICDF have agreed to work with NBDA to take up the cooperation with Nagaland on bamboo related technical assistance for which relevant projects will be initiated.
To jointly promote Bamboo and bamboo products develop with Taiwanese experts in the upcoming, the World Bamboo Congress is scheduled to be held at Taiwan later next year. A technical team from Taiwan will be visiting Nagaland soon to work on the modalities for taking this technical cooperation forward with support of the Indian and Taiwanese Governments.
The Taiwan Technical Team had also suggested that Bamboo Tourism can be explored for exchange programme in days to come.
