Kohima (MExN): The Nagaland University today added another feather to its cap with the release of “Poetry from Nagaland” by Governor Shyamal Datta in an impressive function held here this afternoon. Datta, who is the Chief Rector of the NU, considered the book as a true reflection of the Naga mind and an expression of the inner voice of the Nagas.
Datta said that writing poetry is a difficult task and we require ‘inner instinct’.
He said the more the people read poetry the more the people cherished and softened their minds. Touched by the poetry recitation by the contributors, Datta said he appreciated their reflective minds. He said that a poet has to have a mind to feel and conceive and a heart to express.
He also encouraged NU to popularize the poetry of Nagaland by reaching out the same to the outside world as well as to provide good publicity in journals, bulletin, websites and local papers.
Datta also felt that poetry should not be left out in the Governor’s Award that was instituted to confer awards in the fields of music, literature, art and craft, etc in the State. He expressed his wish towards the inclusion of the art of poetry in the list. Saying that the society was now living in the era of knowledge, NU vice chancellor Prof. G.D Sharma said that it is deemed necessary to protect intellectual property in the form of copy right.
The University also proposes to bring out a book on folklore so that the other regions could come to know about the richness of the Naga lifestyle and culture, he added.
