Nagaland’s COVID-19 surge continues

Dimapur, January 14 (MExN): Nagaland continues to see a post-holiday COVID-19 surge with 159 new cases on Friday. This was out of 632 test results with a daily sample positivity rate of 25.16 per cent. 

According to the newest state Health Department figures, the new cases include 145 from Dimapur, 11 from Kohima and 2 from Tuensang, and 1 from Phek. They comprise of 95 travelers/returnees, 54 detected through self testing and random sampling, 1 from the armed forces/security personnel, 8 traced contacts, and 1 frontline worker.  

The total caseload of the State is now 32,775. Of this, 30,480 people have recovered from the infection including 24 on Friday and the number of the active COVID-19 cases in the State now stands at 371. With no new fatalities reported, the death toll due to the virus remains at 687. 

Of the active cases in the State, 339 are asymptomatic, 23 have mild symptoms, 8 have moderate symptoms and 1 has severe symptoms requiring oxygen. There are no COVID-19 patients in the ICU as of now, according to the State Health Department’s daily bulletin. 

Meanwhile, on the national scale, data uploaded by the Health Ministry informed that India logged 2,64,202 new coronavirus infections, marking a 6.7 per cent jump from the 2.47 lakh daily cases reported yesterday. A total of 5,753 Omicron cases are amongst all COVID cases reported so far.

The country also reported 315 new deaths, taking the total fatalities in India to 485,350, while active cases rose to 12,72,073.

The active cases comprise 3.48 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate decreased to 95.2 per cent, the ministry said.
