Nagaland’s own Vilaseir wins at AITA 50K Men’s

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 16 (MExN): Nagaland’s own Vilasier Khate clinched another national singles title to his name in the recently concluded AITA 50K Men's Ranking tennis tournament.   Vilaseir Khate came out a dominating display as the youngster won the AITA Men’s 50k Tennis Tournament at Ahmedabad International Tennis Academy lawns. Up against local favourite Jaydeep Chudasama, Vilaseir appeared to have the ante as he did not give his higher ranked rival chance. After winning the first game 6-4, the 23-year-old from Haryana appeared to have been in hurry as he breezed through the second set 6-1to settle the issue.   In earlier rounds, Vilaseir beat Maharashtra’s Shimon Shashtri 6-1, 6-1in the opening round before registering a comfortable 6-2, 6-4 win over local lad Jay Soni in the second round. Vilaseir’s toughest match came against Odhisa’s Chinmay Pradhan in the quarters. Vilaseir lost the first set 4-6. However, he came back strong to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-2 to book the semi-final berth. In the semis, Vilaseir shocked statemate Yuvraj Singh 6-3, 6-4 to reach the final.   The tournament was held at Ahmedabad, Gujarat from 11th to 15th September. It was organised by All India Tennis Federation and AISA.
