Dimapur: The first meeting of Nagamese New Testament (NT) translation committee was held on May 2 at NBCA Convention Hall, Dimapur. The meeting was attended by representatives from all denominations, informed a press release.
Rev. Dr. Chen Rengma, Executive Secretary, NBCA, in the meeting said that the aim of the committee was to translate the New Testament into Nagamese in a joint venture. With endorsement from NBCC, the project was made possible, he stated.
Rev. Dr. W. Along Jamir, Associate Translations Director, Bible Society of India, Shillong, also shared about the Bible Society of India’s system and pattern of translation and its importance. He said NBCA is the proper channel to start this project with all the denomination. He added that language identifies our culture and life.
According to the note, the committee members resolved to have only one translator and a translation committee but the final approval should come from the translation committee. The members also resolved that the translator be instructed to call for the translation committee review meeting in 2 months. The translator should report to the translation centre Shillong by second week of June. The committee members also resolved to entrust NBCA general secretary to organise the consultation on Nagamese language in consultation with NBCC.
The meeting agreed to appoint the following members into the translation committee: Translator – Toshi Jamir; Translation Committee – Khosa Angami, Sam Kumar, Kashito, H.Lemei Phom, Asangla Zumtu, Rev.Dr.Chen.Rengma, J.S Rengma, Baulei Phom
