Selouphe Model Village celebrates Sühkrühnye

Dimapur, January 15 (MExN): MLA Azheto Zhimomi urged upon the people to extend friendship to one another and to uphold the same in all spheres, stating that it is most needed in the Naga society.

He was addressing a large gathering at Sühkrühnye festival celebration at Selouphe Model Village on Saturday afternoon.

He said, as Nagas, it was the responsibility of each individual to be united as one people, to bring about social and political reforms in the society.

Reiterating that the Government of India had said ‘one solution,’ inclusive of all, he urged upon the people to call upon all Naga national workers' group to become one. This, he said, was one of the most sincere goals that the Neiphiu Rio led government is trying to achieve. To set an example and also to send the message across, all 60 MLAs of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, irrespective of political affiliation have come together as one, he added.

Even in regards to demand to repeal AFSPA, he said Nagas must voice out as one and demand for removal of the act from the Northeast.

Zhimomi encouraged the youth to be more enterprising and make best use of their abilities rather than depending on government alone. Government will definitely help those who are promising and hardworking but will not be able to provide government job to all, he added.

As the country is seeing an increase of new COVID-19 cases, MLA Azheto was concerned that public must act responsibly to be safe from the virus and to follow the SOPs and other guidelines issued by the government and to co-operate with the government by going for vaccination.

Rev Dr Yiepetso Wezah, Auxiliary Secretary, Bible Society of India shared the significance of the festival.

Members from other communities and elders of surrounding villages were invited to the festival which was marked by Naga wrestling competition along with other traditional games, songs and a grand feast.
