
Mon, May 18 (DIPR): The Additional Deputy Commissioner for Mon, Chumremo Odyuo, formally inaugurated the Farmers Information Advisory Centre (FIAC) Mon Block on May 18 at the Office of the DAO (Agri), Mon.
In his inaugural speech, the chief guest called upon the agri and allied department to judiciously utilise the FIAC Centre both for the benefit of the farmers and the department as well. He advised the officers in concern to update the latest information on scientific method of farming and disseminate it to the farmers through the FIAC. He maintained that in spite of the rich soil blessed by nature, Nagas are yet to achieve self-sufficiency in food production due to lack of knowledge in scientific method of farming and in land management. He hoped that with sincere cooperation and dedicated officers under the ATMA, FIAC will cater to the needs of farmers.
In his keynote address, L Tongpang Longkumer, Project Director for ATMA, Mon district, said that the objective of the FIAC is to equip the agriculture functionaries and the farmers of the district with the latest technologies and the activities that are taken up in other parts of the world.
Pongte, DHO Mon, in a short speech said that FIAC would bridge the gap between the farmers and the department, and asked the farmers to avail the opportunity. N Thungchamo Lotha said that the FIAC was the long felt need of the farmers of the district, and that the officers and functionaries would address the problems brought by the farmers. The problems which are beyond their capacity would be referred to the research centre and agriculture universities to solve the problems of the farmers, Lotha said, adding that the FIAC would enable the farmers to harness the benefit of the e-governance and electronic global village. The program was attended by officers from the agri and allied department, scientists from KVK, and NGOs of the district.
