Dimpaur, June 18 (MExN): The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan events were observed across several districts in Nagaland on Wednesday highlighting the dangers of substance abuse, and the need for collective action to build a drug-free society.
“Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan" is the official theme for Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah 2026, the nationwide campaign running from June 17-26.
Reports from State DIPR informed that the observance included pledges reaffirming dedication and responsibility towards building a healthier society.

Niuland:
Launching the event virtually at the DC's Office Complex, Niuland Deputy Commissioner TL Kiusumong Tikhir said that drug abuse poses a serious threat to society's health and future, and called for collective responsibility from parents, teachers, students and community leaders in creating drug-free communities.
He informed that the district campaign would include awareness talks, pledge-taking ceremonies, student competitions, outreach programmes and social media campaigns.
The programme was attended by DPO T Y Peter Yanthan, EAC Neisiezo Theunuo, DHEW staff and other district administration officials. Citizens requiring assistance may contact the National Helpline at 14446 or the District Hospital, Niuland.

Meluri:
In Meluri, the Office of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) organised an awareness programme at the Village Council Hall, where DC Phuleshe K Yepthomi stressed the need for collective action to combat drug abuse and protect the nation's human resources.
He noted that substance abuse adversely affects the productivity, health and potential of individuals, particularly youth, and stressed the need for awareness, education and a drug-free environment to ensure sustainable growth and development.
Yepthomi observed that drug abuse not only harms affected families but also impacts the wider community by undermining health, education, livelihoods and the future of young people.
He urged parents and community leaders to guide youth towards healthy and productive lives.
Speaking on "Drug Abuse and Crime," SDPO Meluri, Dr T Desela Sangtam, highlighted the link between substance abuse and criminal activities, particularly among young people.
She stressed the importance of prevention, awareness and community cooperation, while warning that those involved in drug-related offences would face legal action.
Dr Ngailong L Phom of CHC Meluri spoke on the harmful effects of tobacco use and urged the public, especially youth, to adopt healthier lifestyles while stressing the role of awareness, prevention and community support in reducing tobacco addiction.
The programme was chaired by CDPO Thorhosie Kajiri. Pastor Wuthovi Nyuthe of Meluri Village Baptist Church offered the invocation, while Supervisor Vijirho Nyuthe delivered the vote of thanks.

Tseminyu:
The District Administration and Social Welfare Department organised a programme at the Office of the District Programme Officer in Tseminyu, during which DC Japheth Woch outlined measures under the campaign and urged collective participation in efforts to build a drug-free district.
He appealed to youth, students, families, communities and friends to actively participate in the campaign, stating that meaningful change begins with individual commitment.
Participants also took the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan pledge, reaffirming their dedication and responsibility towards building a healthier society.
The programme was chaired by Centre Administrator, OSD Tseminyu, Kenyuhyule Thong, while DPO Sentimengla Pongener delivered the vote of thanks.
