National Deworming Day in Longleng

Longleng, August 11 (MExN): The District Health Society, Longleng commemorated National Deworming Day at Phom Lempong School here on August 10.  

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Longleng, Dr Kongyan Phom in the welcome address encouraged the students to study well and stay healthy.  

DPO (RCH/UIP) Dr. Imnameren Phom in his keynote address said National Deworming Day is devoted to deworm all children and to improve the digestive system. He encouraged the school children to maintain a good digestive system so that by staying healthy they can improve their attendance in school, informed a press release from the CMO Longleng.  

Dr. Imnameren also spoke on the several harmful health issues caused by worm infection such as anemia, nutritional impairment, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting etc. He further highlighted the benefits of deworming, which improves immunity, concentration, anemic status, capacity to learn etc. He requested the school children to keep short and clean nails, drink clean water, wash their hands, especially before eating and after using toilet.  

Tialemba, Executive Secretary, Phom Baptist Christian Association Longleng as the special guest encouraged the students saying in order to be successful, good health is a first and a must, the release stated.  

Further, Dr Abhishek, RRT (WHO) spoke about the upcoming Measles Rubella Campaign, which is going to be held in the month of October and requested the students and teachers to cooperate so that the district can have a successful MR campaign.  

Later, the CMO, special guest, Dr Abhishek and Dr. Imnameren administered deworming tablets to the students.  

Similarly, National Deworming Day was observed at the respective health units of Longleng district. Tamlu PHC observed the day at Government High School Kangching Village, Yachem PHC observed at Zion School Yachem village, and Yongnyah PHC at Holy Cross School.  

The day was also observed at the respective Sub Centres with the help of the nurses and the ASHA Coordinators.  

On account of National Deworming Day, deworming tablets were distributed to all the schools in the district, both government and private, and also in the Anganwadi Centres, the release added.
