National Deworming Day observed in Kiphire

Kiphire, August 11 (MExN): National Deworming Day was launched at Good Shepherd High School (GSHS) in Kiphire on August 10. Dr. Rebecca Y Sema, District Programme Officer (RCH/UIP) gave an overview of the programme to the students at the school premises.

National Deworming Day, she said, is observed because there are so many ill effects of worm infestation in the body, especially amongst children of 1-19 years. She pointed out that worm infestation adversely affects not only the physical health, but also mental development.

The students of the school were distributed an Albendazole tablet each and made to chew during their morning assembly, a press release from Medonguno M Chasie, District Media Officer, CMO office, Kiphire stated.

The National Deworming Day will be followed by a mop-up day on August 17, 2017 to cover children who might be left out during the administration of Albendazole to ensure maximum coverage.

The release further informed that one day training for the Kiphire CMO office staff (NHM) was organised on August 8 on account of National Deworming Day with Dr. Rebecca Y Sema, District Programme Officer (RCH/UIP) as the resource person.

Dr. Rebecca sensitized the participants on the importance of deworming and the correct dosages to be given out to children.

Dr. Tinurenla, Dy. CMO in her welcome address urged the members to render their support for successful implementation of the deworming programme. Children between the ages of 1 and 19 years will be dewormed with administration of Albendazole chewable tablets in all schools (government and private) and Anganwadi Centres during the programme, the release added.
