NATIONAL FAMILY BENEFIT SCHEME: 535 beneficiaries from Nagaland during 2020-21

Under National Family Benefit Scheme, 535 beneficiaries were provided with one time financial assistance during 2020-21 in Nagaland.

This was stated in the Annual Administrative Report of the Social Welfare Department, Nagaland, tabled at the recently concluded 11th session of 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in Kohima.

The Ministry of Rural Development implements National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) through state governments and Union Territory administrations. In the event of death (natural or accidental) of the primary bread earner of families living below the poverty line, the bereaved families are assisted a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 20,000.

Eligibility criteria

Financial Assistance under NFBS is available upon the fulfillment of the following criteria.

The main bread earner has to be a family member whose income constituted a major share of the family’s total earnings.

The death of such a bread-earner whilst she or he is above 18 years of age and below 60 years of age.

A woman in the family, who is a home maker, is also considered as a bread-earner under this scheme.
