DIMAPUR, JANUARY 24 (MExN): The Dimapur District Administration and District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Dimapur observed the National Girl Child Day on January 24. 

To mark the significance of National Girl Child Day, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child) sensitization programme on girl child rights/ child rights was organized at Signal Angami Panchayat Hall in collaboration with AIDA- Child Friendly Dimapur.

The programme was chaired by Lanusangla Jamir, District Mission Coordinator, DHEW, Dimapur. Dhonthaidi Langthasa, Gender Specialist delivered a detail information and knowledge on the significance of the day, the aims and objectives behind commemorating the special day. 

Shemang S Phom, Child Mobilization Officer, AIDA- Child Friendly Dimapur, gave a brief insights and information on the rights of girl child and children in general. She also spoke on the cases they have come across and on how legal knowledge and proper awareness on the services provided by the Government can help in assisting the vulnerable children of the district. 

Earlier, welcome note was delivered by Kruseno Sophie, Women President, Signal Angami, Dimapur and words of gratitude by Lichebeni Yanthan, Gender Specialist. 

After the programme, plantation drive on account of National Girl Child was conducted with the female students of Government High School Lengrijan, Dimapur. 

National Girl Child Day Programme organized by District Administration, Chümoukedima & District HUB for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was held at Chumoukedima Town Hall on January 24. Munesh Payal (IPS), Deputy Commissioner of Police and Esther Aye, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, Chümoukedima graced the occasion as special guests.

Payal, in her speech encouraged the students to motivate themselves and achieved something which they dream of and be their own role model. She also said that if one is educated, there will be financial freedom and will received respect from the society. She also urged them to work hard and not to compare with others as everyone is unique in their own way.

At Tseminyu, the keynote address was delivered by Deputy Commissioner & Chairman Mission Shakti Tseminyu, Rohit Singh. Short speech was proposed by Tali Imchen, Superintendent of Police, G K Rengma, president Rengma Sports Association and representative of Medical Department. 

During the day long program, the women contingent for Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 and District Icon-BBBP, Flora Kent, Miss Tseminyu 2023 were also felicitated. 
 

Assam Rifles personnel of Phek Garrison also observed National Girl Child Day by conducting awareness lecture on girl child empowerment with students and girls of St Xavier's Higher Secondary School, Meluri and Avangkhu village. 

According to a press release, these sessions aided these budding youth in understanding their career options and the pathways that led to those options in order to create a bright future for themselves and their families. 

The students and villagers showed eagerness and willing participation by engaging in a thought provoking question and answer session that would certainly go a long way in helping these sharp young minds. The event concluded with a light hearted moment of sweets distribution and group photographs to capture the memories, the press release stated.
