Tuensang, August 11 (MExN): The IQAC and the Research Committee of Sao Chang College, Tuensang organised a National Level Online Faculty Development Programme on the theme ‘Academic Writing’ for teaching faulty of colleges and universities and for research scholars.
The programme was held from August 4 to 10 with the objective to learn about the details involved in writing effective research papers and to understand the process of publication, a press release informed on Wednesday.
During the inaugural session, Director for Higher Education Dr Apeni Lotha delivered the keynote address and encouraged the teachers to stay driven in order to excel in their chosen field. She spoke about the service rules and the National Education Policy 2020 while underscoring important rules that a teacher in higher education should follow for professional growth, the release stated.
It was followed by the first technical session with the resource person Dr Kabita Kumari, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education, Mizoram University, who spoke on the topic ‘Research Writing: Exploring the Paradigms’ and ‘Research Writing: Building Blocks.’ As per the release, in the two technical sessions, Dr Kumari discussed the difference between academic writing and other writings, the types and characteristics of academic writing, etc.
The third technical session was conducted by Dr Shokip Tumtin, an Asst Prof in the SCC Department of Chemistry, where she presented on the topic ‘An Elementary Approach Towards Publishing Review Papers in Journals.’ In addition to a detailed explication on the basics of publication, she also guided the participants towards database of various journals, and presented a demo on how to identify and access reputed peer reviewed journals.
Resource person Dr NK Prasa who is the Head of Government Polytechnic, Gaya discussed on the topic ‘Article Writing: Best Practices’ on the fourth technical session and elaborated on the characteristics of scholarly article and explained how to write an article and how to publish them in reputed peer reviewed journals.
Asst Prof at the Regional Institute of Education, Bhopal, National Council of Educational Research and Training Dr Vanthangpui Khobung presented on ‘Details: I’ where she explicated on research ethics, issue of plagiarism, tools for checking plagiarism, etc., the release stated.
The sixth and final technical session was held on August 10 where Dr Kumari presented on the topic ‘Citing References’ and gave a detailed analysis of citation and referencing through a hands-on session.
The programme witnessed active participation and interaction between the resource persons and the participants as the sessions kept the participants engaged with practical exercises and lively discussions. The six days long National Faculty Development Programme was successfully concluded with a Valedictory Session, the release stated.
