
Mon, February 15 (DIPR): One day awareness & sensitization programme on beekeeping was held for the first time in Wakching area constituency at community hall, Wakching village, where representatives and interested individuals from seven neighbouring villages attended. The program was organised and sponsored by Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM).
Stressing on the need to preserve nature and bio resources, Y.M Yollow Konyak, MLA and Chairman NBHM, who graced the occasion as a chief guest said “though we are living in a technology world, for survival, men has to turn to natural resources for survival.” To prove his point, he cited the example of advanced countries such as USA and other European countries which depend on agri-products. He therefore urged upon the people to take keen interest in utilizing the natural resources/product to their advantage.
Meanwhile Wonchio Odyuo, team leader NBHM, while delivering keynote address said unlike other departments where investment is high, beekeeping is low cost and its product has high market value. Stating that NBHM has no subsidiary fund, he clarified that the duty of the team was to sensitize and train interested individual/ groups in beekeeping. He also informed that beekeeping is not a new culture for the Nagas and urged the people to learn new method of beekeeping from the resource persons for bountiful harvest.
Sensitization on general introduction to honey bees & beekeeping products, scope & potentials of beekeeping in context with Nagaland, Honey bee pollination & its advantages via climate change and success stories (Nagaland Scenario) were delivered by Bokali Chikhe, Chubanungla Shilu NBHM TM, Dr. Thungben Yanthan NBHM TM, Bendangmoa Yim NBHM TM and Nzanbemo Kikon and Deventhong Yim (NBHM TMs).
