NBQS workshop under NFR reports notable progress

MALIGAON, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The New Bongaigaon Workshop (NBQS) under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded notable achievements in July 2025, reflecting its focus on quality maintenance, innovation, and operational efficiency.

In the coach production and maintenance segment, the workshop out-turned 78.5 coaches, including 24 ICF (Non-AC), 4 ICF (AC), 20 LHB (Non-AC), 14 LHB (AC) with 4 power cars, 6 DEMU trailer coaches, 2 DEMU driving power coaches, 2 NMGHS (POH), 6 NMGHS/NMGH converted coaches, and 1 intermediate overhauled coach. It also turned out 134 wagons during the month, while 11 were detained due to the non-availability of Centre Buffer Coupling (CBC) yokes.

In trolley dispatches, NBQS dispatched 108 coach sets, comprising 43 SS1 sets, 20 LHB (Non-AC), 23 LHB (AC), 52 ICF (Non-AC), 7 ICF (AC), and 6 DEMU sets. Under wheel dispatches, a total of 223 wheel pairs were sent out, including 72 for BCN, 105 for LHB, 42 for ICF, and 4 special category wheels.

The workshop converted 5 wagons to the twin pipe air brake system during the month, taking the cumulative figure to 262. All wagons now out-turned from NBQS are 100% twin pipe compliant. Additionally, 27 wagons were modified for door height reduction and blocking, bringing the cumulative total to 384.

NBQS manufactured 35 in-house items to meet production requirements. It also ensured 100% compliance in implementing new design modifications during Periodical Overhauling (POH).

As part of its environmental efforts, the workshop disposed of 326.384 metric tonnes of ferrous and 37.193 metric tonnes of non-ferrous scrap in July.

In innovation, NBQS developed a safety valve test bench for BTPN tank wagons, enabling accurate testing between 0.35 kg/cm² and 1.4 kg/cm². A prototype of a BTPN tank wagon filling and discharge system was also created to aid operational training.

Coach No. 125001 (LWFAC) was out-turned using the unit exchange method, featuring upgraded seat and berth rexine, new PVC flooring, vinyl wrapping, D-cal painting, and replacement of major electrical and air brake components.

NBQS continues to play a key role in enhancing the safety, reliability, and performance of rolling stock across the NFR zone through its technical capabilities and progressive initiatives.
