If the Centre refuses to give affiliation to all private schools in the four Naga districts of Manipur state to NBSE, the Nagaland government may ask the Centre to give them a separate Board at the earliest as the career of thousands of students are in danger, said Dr Sherhuzelie Lezietsu, Minister for Planning and Coordination.

“We would ask the centre to give them a separate board, because Meiteis cannot impose their will on the Nagas if the latter refuse to give affiliation to NBSE”, said the senior Minister. But he said that the issue would not be discussed in this Assembly Session, however, a team led by the state Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio would visit New Delhi soon after the session to press upon the central leaders to expedite the affiliation process.

“This is a serious issue. We have few months left to end academic session as such the career of thousands of Naga students are in peril’, said the Minister, while insisting that if the Centre declines to give consent for affiliation, the Nagaland government may instead ask New Delhi to give a separate board to the private schools in four Naga districts of Manipur.

Today (Tuesday), the House will pass several government bills after the question hour, but there would not be any bill on the affiliation issue, said the Minister.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition I Imkong said that it is up to the government, to broach open the issue on the floor of the house. “It is up to the government whether to discuss or not. Unless the government takes up how we can discuss” said Imkong.

However, he added that the Congress would support the issue if it comes up for discussion in the floor of the house. “We have made it very clear that we would support the issue”, Imkong added.
