NCC Group Kohima commemorates 71st NCC Day

Kohima, November 24 (MExN): Commemorating the 71st NCC Day celebrations, NCC Group Kohima organized a number of social and cultural activities recently. 

The grand finale of such events took place in a Cultural Extravaganza at Science College Jotsoma on November 24. Major General PC Nair, YSM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) graced the occasion as chief guest, who hoisted the NCC Flag.

The NCC cadets from various schools and colleges presented a kaleidoscope of cultural and musical programme, a press release from Lt Col Sumit Sharma, PRO (Defence) stated.

During the occasion, chief guest gave awards to NCC cadets for exemplary performance. In his address, Maj Gen Nair acknowledged the importance of NCC in nation building and guiding the youth towards becoming better citizens by following virtues of unity and discipline.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Col Prashant Pachauri followed by the NCC song. In Dimapur, a painting competition was held at Eastern Christian College on the theme 'Role of NCC in Nation Building,' wherein large number of cadets of ECC, Patkai Christian College, GHSS Purana Bazar, Christian Memorial HSS and Pilgrim HSS, Dimapur participated. Prizes were given to winners by Wg Cdr Ganesh Sawant, CO 1 Nagaland Air Sqn NCC. 

In other parts of the state, myriad activities were organized by NCC units to mark the occasion in which about 2500 cadets participated along with NCC officers and staff. These activities included visits to orphanages, tree plantations, know your Army displays, debate competitions, flag hoisting ceremonies and felicitation of outstanding cadets, the release added.
