DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 27 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) today expressed concern at criminal acts being committed in Dimapur, while specifically pointing to the life attempt on a Naga businessman on September 18 and the assault on a family in Chumukedima which occurred on September 21. It also expressed concern at the influx of illegal immigrants into the state.
To discuss these issues, the NCD called for a joint co-ordination meeting, comprising of the Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD), Dimapur District Citizens Forum and all tribe Presidents and Secretaries on September 26. The meeting condemned the September 18 incident and said that “there is no justification for any kind of killing.” Calling for a a stop to killings and extortion of all kind, it appealed to all Naga political groups to shun the “culture of killing, extortion, intimidation and hatred and put on the culture of love and harmony.”
The NCD said it is imperative for the State Government to step up measures for the safety and security of all citizens and establishments. It asked the law enforcement agencies to deal promptly and register criminal cases against any group/individual making demands accompanied by fear, threat and intimidation.
On the issue of illegal migration, the NCD cautioned that “in the absence of coordinated policy and approach in handling illegal migrants, the North East can become a hot bed for terrorism in the country affecting not just the people of the region but the entire country.” It further called for the proper implementation of the Inner Line Permit system.
Meanwhile, the NCD lauded the Government of India’s move to invite the 6 NNPGs Working Committee for formal talks.
