NCD questions State govt’s silence on alarming incidence of anti-social activities

Sets up public action committee to monitor, detect ‘illegal immigrants’

Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): A meeting held under the aegis of the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) today expressed concern at the alarming incidence of anti-social activities occurring at regular intervals and questioned State Government silence and failure to take action on ultimatum served by business organization that expired October 5.

It also resolved to set up a public action committee under the banner of ‘Naga Council Dimapur’ comprising 19 tribal Hoho/Union Presidents or its nominees, NWHD, GBs, DDCF, DUCCF, DCCI, BAN, EDBA and CTCC and representatives of selected NGOs “to deal on life attempt on L. Doulo and to act as screening/monitoring point to detect illegal immigrants.” It will be headed by Vekhosayi Nyekha as the convenor.

The NCD had called the meeting of Dimapur based organization/union on October 9 at its office to seek suggestion and proposal for further “deliberation on life attempt” on proprietor of Kuda Cold storage and illegal immigrants issue,” a stated press note from NCD Presiden T Bangerloba and General Secretary Thsapongkyu Sangtam.

The meeting was attended by all the 19 tribes Presidents, NWHD, DUCCF, GBs, DDCF, DDCI and EDBA, BAN and Chumukedima Business Association.

“The house also strongly condemned the life attempt on L Duolo and attack on Naga family by the non-Nagas at Chumukedima,” it said. Despite several appeals and protests made by the public to all the Naga Political Groups against taxation, the house regretted that there was no improvement of random extortion in Nagaland, particularly in Dimapur.

The Nagas are tired of torture, extortion and intimidation to innocent public and businessman for not paying the taxes, mostly in the name of political movement, the house further highlighted asserting that “such kind of unwanted activities should be condemned by all.” “The public of Dimapur had further appealed the authority of NSCN-K to take appropriate action against the culprit for their senseless act,” it said.

Meanwhile, the meeting resolved to "stand solidly" behind the Western Chakhesang Hoho in its fight for justice over the ‘attempt on businessman’s life.”
