NDA announces 2nd edition of Nagaland Fashion Week

The Nagaland Designers’ Association (NDA) is all set to present its 2nd edition of Nagaland Fashion Week (NFW) on October 30 and 31 at Hotel Vivor in Kohima. The Grand Finale will be held on November 4 at Bamboo Resource Centre in Dimapur.  

The three day event under the theme ‘Evolve’ will focus on taking Nagaland fashion scene to discovering new creative frontier for enhancing marketability. The Association aims to provide opportunity to upcoming individuals in allied fields like modeling, make-up artists, hair stylists, photographers etc.  

Addressing a press conference held today at Press Point, Supermarket, the NDA members highlighted their aims to boost the brand value and commercial importance of local fashion industry by initiating development of modern techniques to produce texture and motif prints to revamp the contemporary ensemble into a refined, functional and comfort driven wardrobe, while nurturing the best of local talents in the state.  

Terming the show as ladies event, Super model Ketholeno Kense and Professor Theyiesenuo Keditsu will grace the first two days as Lady of the event on October 30 and 31 respectively. The Grand Finale will witness Lithrongla G. Chishi, IAS Commissioner & Secretary, Industries and Commerce, as Lady of the Event.  

Describing the NDA, which is purely a non-profit organization, officially launched by the present Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on November 6, 2011, the Vice President of NDA, Kavili Kiba Swu said, “We formed this group as a platform to showcase the creativity of young talents.” The objective is to facilitate a business relationship between the local designers and the consumers. It also aims to make a breach to the rest of the world through fashion, an industry which will keep growing, she emphasized.  

With unemployment issue among Naga youths aggravating, the Association believes there is immense scope in diverting meaningful employment to the younger generation through self-employment. Towards this goal, this year’s fashion week has come up with job placement for winners in the Government industry.  

While expressing disappointment over the Government’s laid back attitude on the State’s fashion industry, which he regarded as crucial to solving unemployment, Model Opang Jamir, the show’s designer and choreographer opined the Government to come forward and extend a much needed help to the Association. “Next year I hope to see the Government taking part,” he added.  

The Show will have three categories: Emerging, Enthusiast and Generation Next. Twenty five aspiring designers will showcase their designs worn by forty upcoming models, The first two days of the show will be held at Kohima and the grand finale in Dimapur, from 5:00 pm onwards. The upcoming fashion designers and aspiring models will get an opportunity to work under reputed fashion designers, an exclusive photo shoot with a renowned photographer and a chance to get featured in fashion Magazines and publication are some of the Show’s highlights.  

The tickets will be available at the venue or through the organizers directly. Prominent public figures are expected to grace the show. Various artists will be performing throughout the event.
