A match in action at the Northeast Zonal Senior National Basketball Championship.
DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 16 (MExN): The Northeast Zonal Senior National Basketball Championship was off to a belligerent start with Mizoram men thrashing Tripura by a margin of 116 points, 124 - 08. In the second match Meghalaya defeated Manipur 72 - 47.
During the inaugural function, Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma was the Chief Guest. He encouraged the players to give their best during the Zonal Championship and mentioned that sports in general helps in building the character of a person. He hoped that more Northeast basketball players will don the national colors in the near future.
In the only women’s match today, a far superior host team Meghalaya easily defeated Mizoram 54 - 26.
In another men’s game, Assam and Nagaland played a very exciting and fast game. But a far experienced play by Assam men gave a 97 - 64 win over the Nagaland team. For Assam, B. Singh and M. Kumar scored 20 and 19 points respectively, and for Nagaland Seyie Kire scored 18 points and K. Belho 14 points.
In the final game of the day, Meghalaya men easily defeated Tripura.
