‘Need to make NLTP Act more stringent’

Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): The Advisor, Excise, Sericulture & Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio today expressed the need to make the NLTP Act more stringent than its present status.
He was addressing the programme held in his honour conducted by the Department of Excise, Dimapur on September 3.
A press release issued by Tarep Imchen, Commissioner of Excise, Dimapur stated that Zhaleo in his speech outlined the importance of procedures in government administration and functions. He expressed the need to make the NLTP Act more stringent than its present status.
On the NLTP Act, the Advisor held that it was an Act that came into fruition due to the public opinion and pressure and that the Government was bound to take a decision based on the will of the people. The Advisor assured the Department that he will do his utmost in using his Official position in pursuing the future proposals and plans that the Department had already apprised him.
To strengthen the Department, the Advisor stressed the importance of modernization and expansion of Offices in the newly established districts of Peren, Kiphire and Longleng.
The Advisor also highlighted the importance of changing the nomenclature of the Excise Department to that of Excise and Narcotics in line with the Rules of Business Executive which will pave the way for greater achievements in the field of Narcotics. Further, he also exhorted the field personnel and ministerial staff to perform their official duties sincerely and that efficiency will henceforth be the yardstick for all future evaluations relating to transfer and postings.
The Commissioner of Excise, Tarep Imchen in his speech welcomed the Advisor and expressed hope that his tenure would be productive and prosperous. He described the Advisor as a seasoned bureaucrat with whom he had the opportunity to be associated for a good number of years and that such an experience will be invaluable in providing leadership and dynamism to the Department.
NSEFSA, President, T Arilong Longkumer, apprised the Advisor of the various issues and needs pertaining to the Department and wished that his capable leadership will make tremendous strides for the Department.
The function was chaired by Orenpomo Kikon, Secretary Excise & Sericulture, who welcomed the Advisor and all participants and expressed that the Excise Department was fortunate to have an Advisor of his stature, standing under whose able leadership the Department will scale new height and all round development.
Vote of thanks was delivered by S Chanlei Angh, Deputy Commissioner of Excise. Zhale also visited the Excise Residential Complex cum Training Centre at Lengrijan, Dimapur and took stock of the progress of the newly constructed training facility, the release added.
