‘Need to revive our culture in a Christian manner’

Our Correspondent Phek | December 30 Minister for home Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu today stressed on the need to do research on the rich culture and traditions of Nagas.   Speaking at the 59th general session cum cultural dance competition of the Phek Students’ Union (PSU) here under the theme “Education for culture,” Azo said that good culture should be used wisely and at the same time the culture which are not good for the society should be avoided “because today we are living in a Christian society.  

“We must revive our culture in a Christian manner and live in a Christian manner,” he said.   He maintained that good culture transmits good behavior, respect, obedience, hard work and punctuality. He said culture does not only mean wearing traditional dress and folk dances and songs but culture means one’s good behavior.  

“You have to adopt a culture where it is accepted in human society,” he said and called upon the students to start behaving better and avoid creating nuisance.   Azo lauded the PSU for doing away with chief guest culture and thereby starting the concept of guest speakers and resource persons in its general session.  

He also told them to do away with gift system to VIPs but instead give due recognition to those students who are doing well in their academic career.   “What we need most is recognition,” he said adding that giving recognition to students is source of inspiration to work harder.  

Niechochiyi Venuh, District & Session Judge, Zunheboto in his speech stressed on the need to frame a comprehensive road map to march ahead with the competitive world.  

Towards this, he said meeting of minds is required among the community.   PSU president Ozo Venuh said that concerned with the harmful impact of tobacco products, the PSU resolved to prohibit selling of tobacco products to students within the village jurisdiction.   Also understanding the importance of preserving the rich heritage of the unique culture and traditions, the PSU decided to form building committee for Mini-Museum, he added.
