Need to adapt IT in Govt & social sector

A two days workshop on e-NGO National workshop and training programme, organized by YouthNet and North East Development Foundation supported by Government of Nagaland, concluded today at Kohima.

Speaking at the closing function, IAS, Secretary IT & Communication, K.T Sukhalu, said the workshop was a free facility offered by the planning commission in association with National Informatics Centre to bring about greater partnership between government and voluntary sector and foster better transparency, efficiency and accountability with the objectives to see maximum number of organizations, to find a virtual face and to be visible to global and national audience by having their website.

He said most of the departments have their own website but people do not avail the facility. IAS, Secretary also said, currently there are 52 CICs in Nagaland, however the department is emphasizing on more projects and plans to rule out very soon.

Refreshing on the department projects and plan, Sukhalu said 220 common service Centre are being set up by the state under NeGP which will be the front-end delivery points for Government, private and social sector services to citizens, and added that the core projects is to visualizes in setting up of State Wide Area Network (SWAN) and to establish connectivity down to the block level in the state to facilitate the stakeholders in the government domain secure and to access reliable information.

Sukhalu maintained that State Data Centre (SDC) will also host State level e-Governance Applications and Datas to enable seamless delivery of Government to government (G2G), government to citizen (G2C) and Government to Business (G2B) service duly supported by State wide area Network and common service centres established at the village level.

He also alleged that the department is conducting e-literacy specialized training for villagers on the use of computers and generate awareness on Information Technology (IT), at the same time, MOBME for providing Government services through mobile platform using SMS and voice service.

On the need to strengthen the empowerment on Naga Youth in IT sector, Sukhalu said various Job Oriented Technical Training programs was initiated during the year of Capacity Building 2008-2009.

With the declaration of “Year of Entrepreneurs 2010”, he shared his views that the department is committed to empower the youth and is proposing to implement sponsorship of Village Level Entrepreneurs under Common Service Centres and assist to those entrepreneurs who are willing to start a Business Process Outsource in the State and also to assist entrepreneurs who can start Computer Training institutes across the State including District and Block headquarters.

While acknowledging the YouthNet for the initiatives undertaken, Sukhalu also called upon the participants to practice what has been learned during the two days workshop and urged to bring change for a more effective delivery mechanism both in Government and social sector.

Altogether 46 registered NGO’s took party in the workshop from across the state.
