NEEPPFA opposes import of pigs to NE

DIMAPUR, JULY 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Chapter of the North East Progressive Pig Farmers Association (NEEPPFA) has opposed the decision of the Government of India to allow supply of live pigs for slaughtering in North East States.

A press release from the NEPPFA said this is not at all acceptable and deeply condemnable.

“We have seen our farmer's from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh how this epidemic has created a huge loss to our farmer's who are deeply affected financially and also mentally,” it stated.

“We have seen our farmer's suffering from this as total business and earning source have gone to zero as there is no business as usual and there is no pig movement due to African Swine Fever,” it added.

The NEPPFA, Nagaland Chapter, appealed to the Government of Nagaland to continue the existing ban, based on the above points, “lest our remaining piggery stocks are wiped out by the import of diseases, through the animals at these juncture.”
