NEIMUN initiates ‘Youth Town Hall Series’

Dimapur, December 17 (MExN): The North East India International Model United Nations (NEIMUN) held the first of its Youth Town Hall series on December 17 at Don Bosco Institute, Dimapur.  

Home Commissioner, Government of Nagaland, Abhishek Singh who was the speaker on the occasion addressed the gathering on the topic of ‘Securing the Future by Young People’. Stressing on the potential of youth power he said, “Whether it is playing the role in managing conflict, whether it is playing a role in ensuring peace, or whether it is devising strategies for sustainable development – the youth have a big role to play.”  

The session also offered a platform for the delegates to interact with the speaker to gain further insight into topics on conflict and resolution in the North East Indian region.  

The topics under discussion were: how security is envisioned for young people in the North East Indian region by talking and bridging existing gaps; how to have critical conversation and difficult dialogue concerning youth and their security both in the sectorial and policy level; the missing key conversation in dealing with youth, while there are much of synergy when it comes to youth ability; the need for a paradigm shift in redefining youths in order to achieve sustainable peace so that security of the future is shaped.  

The Youth Town Hall series envisions a space where young people can engage in critical conversations about issues pertaining to North East, especially on redefining and having sustainable peace. It will be held during every NEIMUN Conference and will also go beyond the conferences.  

#NEIMUNfor2250 was also launched at the same time where data based for people who are interested and partake in peace making process to help identify viable solutions at the grass-root level.
