Impressed by the selection system adopted by Kikruma village in running of its council, former Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that if the DAN alliance comes back to power, it will work towards the amendment of Village Council and Area Council Act. Rio was appreciative of the village’s selection system of their council chairman on rotation basis-clanwise and members on khelwise, instead of election. Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebration of Kikruma Students’ Union (KSU)- cum- 61st General Conference of Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU), Rio said that such system reflects the age old Naga tradition of healthy and peaceful administration of the village.
Touching on the forthcoming state general elections, Rio stressed on the need to elect capable representatives who have political vision and can work for the welfare and development of the state. While complimenting the people of Chakhesang for making good progress in different fields, he challenged them to give more attention toeconomy, saying that they are yet to pick up the business and industry sectors.
Recalling the declaration of the “Years of Youth Empowerment” by the then NPF led DAN government, the former chief minister said it has opened various opportunities for the Naga youth to realize their potentials. Many youths have availed various opportunities in exposing their talents and enjoyed employment avenues within and outside the state. We had done a lots, he said adding that it will continue to do so.Reminding the youth of the competitive world, Rio said that only those who work hard will reap the fruit of success. Encouraging the students to make their best use of their talents, he asked them to carefully choose and specialize in their areas of interest.
Stating that Jubilee was a time to retrospect success and failure, Rio challenged the gathering to adopt a complete strategy to meet the new challenges ahead. He underscored education as the most important sector in the present society and challenged students repay their parents who were spending a lot for then by exceling in their academic careers.
The former Chief Minister also released the KSU souvenir. Also speaking on the occasion former home minister Thenucho asked the gathering to deeply concentrate on preservation of flora and fauna and contain indiscriminate burning of jungles so as to maintain ecological balance. “I wish this conference come out with concrete decision on this area,” he said.
Also stressing on the need to create conducive atmosphere to live in, Thenucho asked the people to co-exist in cordial relationship by maintaining love and peace with the neighbors.Former agriculture minister Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, Besusayo Kezo, IPS, Addl DGP Meghalaya, ex minister Kewezu G. Kenye, former NSF president Neiba Kronu, Kohima DC Sachopra Vero and several other dignitaries attended the function.
Earlier, KSU president Veto Kezo delivered presidential address. Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) president Mudovoyo Vero shared greetings message while brief history of the village was given by Kuhupoyo Puro. Talent expo, discussion and recapitulation, special numbers, folk songs and jubilee feast also marked the occasion.
